Saham Toney
S George
This beautifully proportioned tower is impressive from all angles but probably seen at its best when approaching from the Watton direction when it appears to dwarf the cluster of rooftops below.
The six bells, although of different dates and founders make up a tuneful ring. They were last rehung in 1936 by Alfred Bowell of Ipswich in a very fine timber frame which sits on a massive concrete ring beam. The old medieval frame has been retained above the ‘new’ installation. (Roger Peckham)
