The following is a introduction from our new Association President, Guy Morton.
Dear Members,
I am honoured to be chosen as President of the NDAR and am writing to introduce myself.

I learnt to ring as a teenager at Chilvers Coton, Nuneaton in the mid 70’s. I started working at the Midland Bank Branch in Hinckley in 1979, later transferring to International Division in Leicester where I bought a house and started ringing regularly at Aylestone on the outskirts of Leicester.
This is where I met Sue and we married in 1985, just before being transferred by the Bank to London to work as a computer programmer.
We still regularly attend the annual Midland Bank (now HSBC) ringing jolly – known as the “Griffin Ringers”.
We moved to Bushey, Hertfordshire in 1986 – “handy for the M1 to visit family back up North” and joined the band at St James. We stayed in Bushey for almost 30 years, being instrumental in the rehang there. Whilst living in Bushey, I often travelled to London and High Wycombe for 12 bell ringing. During this time, I was elected a member of the Society of Royal Cumberland Youths. I was honoured to be President of the Hertford County Association for their 125th anniversary year. Following early retirement, we moved to Sheringham in December 2015.
On arrival in Sheringham, we initially joined the band at Holt. We then began attending Church at All Saints, Upper Sheringham and very soon became aware of the dilapidated state of the bells and frame. We started a fundraising project and in 2020 the rehang was completed – a super little 6 rung from a new gallery floor. We have a thriving band ranging from just learning to handle to surprise ringers and enjoy welcoming visitors.
It took us a few years to get around to ringing in Norwich, but we enjoyed the occasional trip to the practices at St Peter Mancroft. I then began to regularly attend their practices and Sunday Service ringing (when Upper Sheringham didn’t have a service) and was invited to become a member of the St Peter Mancroft Guild of Ringers.
We have 3 adult sons (in Chicago, Brighouse and Tewkesbury) who are all ringers, and 2 small granddaughters who will no doubt learn to ring once they are tall enough – they have already had a go at backstrokes on a pile of boxes!
I look forward to ringing with many of you in the future.
Guy Morton – NDAR President
