Whissonsett
S Mary the Virgin
During the early 1980s the then derelict ring of three was restored, mainly due to local effort and the enthusiasm of the Incumbent Rev Andrew Sawyer. A new six-bell steel frame was constructed by George Bunning of Gressenhall in 1981 and two years later a Medieval bell from Didlington was acquired to make a ring of four. Augmentation to five was made possible in 1985 with the gift of bell metal from St Michael at Plea Norwich. The ring finally became six in 1999 with the addition of a Taylor treble to commemorate the Millennium. (Roger Peckham)
