Hingham
S Andrew
Built in the 14th Century, this impressive tower rises some 120 feet above the small town. Thomas Newman of Norwich cast bells1, 2 and 3. The 4th and 7th are from the St Neots Foundry, whilst the 5th is a Richard Brasyer bell of c.1460. Alice and William Brend cast the tenor in 1619. In the mid 1990s a new heating system was installed in the lofty ringing room which effectively stopped the bells being rung. This situation was rectified when a fine ringing gallery was installed lower in the tower. (Roger Peckham).
