East Rudham

S Mary

6, tenor 9-2-0 in G

Wednesday 19:30

Prior to 1999 there were three bells, cast in 1820 by William Dobson. Over the years the fittings had deteriorated to the extent that the bells had become virtually unringable .Due to the enthusiasm of the present incumbent, Rev Edward Bundock and the people of East Rudham, three redundant bells were acquired via the Keltek trust from Chilcompton in Somerset. These plus the Dobson bells now form a pleasant ring of six.

All the bells with the exception of the fifth have had engravings added to their original inscriptions.

Unusually the treble’s engraving is in Gaelic (a text from Psalm 29). This bell also carries the names of Edward and Catharine’s two daughters, Alligan and Kaira.  (Roger Peckham)
